Eat healthily

Eating healthy is pertinent for managing both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This is because food can help maintain a normal blood sugar level. Eat vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes, and greens. They are rich in healthy carbohydrates that reward the body with energy and nutrients, making them a nutritious addition to people with diabetes. 

Leafy greens are rich in fibre, which is known for controlling blood glucose levels.  Other foods you can incorporate into your diet are fruits such as watermelon, bananas, and oranges; fatty fish like mackerel and salmon; and whole grains such as millet, pasta and bread. 

Engage in physical activities

Staying active is vital for anyone with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Working out helps to regulate your blood sugar level. Walking, for instance, can help lose weight and regulate sugar levels. Yoga can also ease your stress levels. This is crucial because the higher your stress levels, the higher your blood sugar level. 

Another exercise you should try out is cycling; this is especially if you have type 2 diabetes. Cycling can help control arthritis, a complication of type 2 diabetes. 

Stay abreast of your blood sugar level

This is vital because you have to stay within a healthy blood sugar level range to remain healthy. Be sure to check before and after you eat and exercise. You should also check multiple times if you take insulin. You can purchase a blood glucose monitor and speak to a doctor regularly.

Maintain normal blood pressure and cholesterol level

To manage type 1 and type 2 diabetes, ensure that you take a cholesterol level test and check your blood pressure. Make sure these two are in the normal range. To make this possible, exercise regularly and eat healthy foods. You should also follow the instructions of your doctor. 

Quit smoking

Smoking is dangerous for anyone with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Smoking can make you susceptible to diabetes-related complications such as a stroke, heart attack, and kidney disease. If you are finding it hard to quit smoking, book an appointment with a doctor to get help.

Cut down your alcohol intake

Alcohol is that it can greatly affect your blood sugar. The extent of damage largely depends on how much you consume alcohol and whether you are drinking along with a meal. To be safe, have alcohol in moderation and with food. Constantly monitor your blood glucose level before you retire for the night. 

Manage stress properly
