How Wearing Makeup Everyday Affects Your Skin

How Wearing Makeup Everyday Affects Your Skin

Wearing makeup out is like putting on your amour before getting to the battlefield. Society is a woman’s battlefield. Applying makeup for an occasion or because you feel like it is not a wrong decision. Women wear makeup not because they do not like how they look but because it helps boost their confidence.

However, even as much as putting on makeup is not a deadly crime. It is notwithstanding to say wearing makeup every day can cause damage to the skin. Most people would think that since several women worldwide use makeup, how can it harm our skin? Here is how wearing makeup every day affects your skin;

Colour Changes

Wearing makeup that does not complement your skin tone has unintended consequences. However, wearing makeup every day can severely harm your skin. Makeup prevents your skin from breathing. Pollution, dust, and other particles settle on your skin throughout the day. As a result, free radicals weaken and darken your skin’s collagen. It is because makeup acts as a skin barrier. It prevents oxygen from entering your skin, which causes discolouration and pigmentation.

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. “There is little evidence to suggest that using cosmetics, or being exposed to the ingredients in cosmetics during normal use of these products, increases cancer risk,” according to the American Cancer Society. However, because no long-term studies have been conducted, little is known about the health effects of long-term exposure to many ingredients in cosmetics.

Although unclear, makeup contains carcinogenic substances such as arsenic, formaldehyde, and other primary ingredients in producing cancerous cells.

Eye Infection

The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate compared to other areas. Layers of foundation and concealer are usually applied to conceal dark circles under the eyes. Any harmful ingredient in your makeup can seriously harm your eyes. A minor irritant can generally cause a severe eye infection. Dark circles can also be caused by failing to remove makeup before bed.

Allergic Reaction

While some makeup products appear the same, the ingredients differ from brand to brand. Products made with gentle ingredients are safe for your skin. However, products containing hazardous chemicals such as paraben and S.L.E.S. can cause allergic reactions. If you are allergic to certain elements, such products can aggravate your condition. They can irritate and irritate your skin.

Breakouts

Breakouts can occur due to hormonal imbalance, medications, poor diet, etc. However, regular makeup can exacerbate your problems and cause more frequent breakouts. Makeup should be avoided by those with acne-prone skin, according to dermatologists. Applying less makeup can improve the health of your skin and reduce blackheads.

Clogged Pores

If you apply makeup regularly and leave it on your skin for an extended period, your pores may become clogged. This prevents your skin from breathing, making it prone to acne, spots, and other facial skin issues. You may also notice spots around your eyes.

Premature Ageing

One of the most important things you can do to keep your skin healthy is to protect it from sun damage. You expose your skin to sun damage when you forget to apply sunscreen before applying makeup. Leaving makeup on for an extended period, combined with sun damage, can result in untimely ageing signs such as wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. In addition, if you do not remove your makeup before bed, it can get into your pores, break down the elastin, and cause wrinkles.

Oily or Dry Skin

Makeup that does not suit your skin type can cause it to become drier or oilier. If people with dry skin use makeup that is not designed for their skin type, they may experience extreme dryness. Similarly, oily skin may produce more oil after using the wrong products.

While applying makeup has its perks, it can still harm your skin. These are the long-term effects of makeup on the skin and how much damage it can cause. Therefore, limiting how you wear makeup daily will help your skin breathe.
