5 Electrolysis Myths Dispelled

5 Electrolysis Myths Dispelled

Electrolysis is one of the beauty industry’s best-kept secrets, which has been used as a hair removal treatment for many years. The end goal is to remove unwanted hair growth.

Electrolysis is the most successful method for permanent hair removal compared to other methods like tweezing, shaving, depilatories, or waxing, because these methods will only last a few days to a couple of weeks before the unwanted hair starts to regrow.

Despite its long, compelling history, there are many misconceptions surrounding its process. To help bring you up to speed, here are five electrolysis myths dispelled.

1. Myth: Electrolysis leaves no permanent side effects

The usual side effects after an electrolysis session are redness, swelling, and tenderness. These effects are no cause for concern because they are temporary. However, electrolysis can cause permanent scarring and infection if not done correctly.

2. Myths: Laser electrolysis is superior

Although “laser electrolysis” is advertised and being sold, the terms “laser” and “electrolysis” are two different procedures; they should not be used unitedly. While using lasers is less painful than electrolysis for hair removal, there’s no superiority in removing hair.

3. Myth: Electrolysis is painless

Pain is subjective; what is painful to one person can feel like a scratch to another. Pain is a variable that is hard to foretell in such situations as electrolysis. There are situations where patients have reported sensations from mild tingling to pain so vivid to the point that they couldn’t complete a session without a topical anaesthetic.

4. Myth: Electrolysis promises 100%, permanent success

Even though it has a substantial success rate as far as hair removal is concerned, it is still not yet 100% successful. The consumer still needs to go into the process, knowing there is little chance for hair re-growth.

Also, the electrologist can improve the rate of success (based on how well-trained and experienced they are). Even with that, it is a partially fool-proof process.

5. Myth: Home electrolysis gadgets are just as efficient

While hand-held devices with a probe are boasted to be effective and easy to use, they have less than a 100% chance of success. There are also chances of re-growth, scarring, and infection, with low chances of permanently removing unwanted hair.
