10 Tips On How To Stay Healthy During Pregnancy

Every woman desires a healthy pregnancy because the benefits are enormous. A healthy pregnancy lowers the risk of breast cancer, gives her accessible periods and better sex, boosts her mood, and lowers her risk of stroke.

While the benefits are enormous, women often struggle with managing their pregnancy and having a smooth ride through the 9-month journey.

This article will share ten tips to help you maintain a healthy pregnancy. They include;

Seeing your doctor consistently during pregnancy

Every pregnancy has its own experience. While you may have garnered some knowledge from your previous pregnancies, it is still essential to see your doctor. So, as soon as you confirm you are pregnant, make arrangements to see your doctor.

Exercising

Exercise keeps you active, which is essential for your baby. Pregnancy has many physical and emotional changes that can affect your mood. Exercises come in to boost your mood, improve circulation, help your sleep and reduce stress. Familiarise yourself with exercises that are convenient for the period of pregnancy. However, there are some exercises a pregnant woman should not try when pregnant.

Educating yourself

Pregnant women must be armed with the correct information throughout the nine months. This will enable them to seek help when they suspect an abnormality. Attend childbirth classes, and ask questions. Pregnancy is not a time to be quiet, but be bold enough to voice your concerns.

Drinking more water

During pregnancy, aim for 8-10 glasses of water per day. Remember, you are not just drinking for yourself alone; you are also drinking water for your baby. More water in your system will reduce fatigue, headaches, swelling, constipation, and other pregnancy symptoms.

Getting enough sleep

Endeavour to sleep for at least 8 hours at night because when the baby comes, you may not get half of that. So, rest well. It will help your mood and your heart.

Avoiding over-the-counter drugs

Several over-the-counter drugs have side effects that may not be healthy for your baby. If you must use medications, let your doctor make the prescription.

Changing your chores

You will have to avoid chores that require you to stand for too long, climb ladders, use harmful chemicals, etc. Also, avoid tasks that expose you to bacteria so you don’t get infected.

Staying clean

The importance of observing basic hygiene during pregnancy cannot be overemphasised. Prioritise washing your hands regularly; it reduces infection risk.

Making friends

Sometimes, the strength we need to go through a phase in life is the knowledge that we are not alone in the process. When you meet them at prenatal or childbirth classes, become friends with other pregnant women.

Eating healthily

Eat foods rich in calcium and fibre.
Take more veggies, lentils, oranges, and cereals.
Eat six to seven balanced meals, but resist the temptation to overeat.
Give in to cravings sometimes, and don’t lose track of your weight.
