Home Remedies For Toothache

A person who has ever experienced a toothache can testify that it is not a pleasant experience. Toothache pain can sometimes be unbearable and can make you feel uncomfortable all the time.

Toothaches are typically caused by irritation of the nerves housed within the tooth. Tooth decay or damage, as well as gum disease, are just a few of the factors that might irritate these ultra-sensitive nerve endings. In some situations, pain induced by damage to your jaw (for example, if you hit your face on something) can extend to your teeth and cause a toothache.

Who wouldn’t want such pain to go away? Of cause, you would. The next thing that will come to mind would be to speak to your doctor about your toothache pain and make an appointment, but before that, there are home remedies you can try out before your next dental appointment.

Here are some home remedies for toothache;

Make use of cloves

Cloves have antimicrobial and painkilling effects. Cloves are said to be particularly beneficial in the treatment of toothaches.

If you have a toothache, you can use dried cloves. To relieve toothache discomfort, insert dried cloves between the affected tooth and your cheek. You can also soak a cotton wool ball in a mixture of a few drops of clove oil and a little amount of olive oil.

If you apply the cotton wool ball to your hurting tooth, it should relieve the discomfort for as long as you keep it there. Cloves have an unpleasant flavour, so you should avoid getting the oil or juice of the cloves on your tongue.

Elevate your head

Although it may be tough to sleep with a toothache, lying down can aggravate your discomfort since blood pressure in your head rises when you are in a flat position. If possible, raise your head with pillows or sleep upright in a chair when going to bed.

Salt water rinse

Rinsing your mouth with salt water serves two functions. The rinse motion might aid in the removal of things caught between your teeth. Furthermore, because salt is a natural disinfectant, it can aid in the treatment of any infection by lowering inflammation. Salt and water for toothache have been known to be very effective.

Use of tea bags

You can use a cold or warm tea bag to clean your tooth. When using a used tea bag, ensure it has cooled sufficiently so that it is no longer hot but still warm. If you prefer a cold treatment, place a used tea bag in the freezer for a few minutes before applying it to your tooth.

Because of its antibacterial characteristics, peppermint tea may be very beneficial for toothaches. Tea, on the other hand, might discolour your teeth, so don’t use this method too frequently.

Garlic

Garlic has several medicinal properties and has been used for millennia. When garlic is crushed, it releases allicin, a natural antibacterial ingredient that can destroy dangerous, plaque-causing bacteria while also providing pain relief. To reduce pain and swelling, chew on a piece of raw garlic or apply crushed raw garlic to the affected area.

Applying ice

Applying ice to the aching tooth can assist to relieve discomfort. You can experiment with several variations of this technique. Wrap a cloth in ice and apply it to the affected region. Apply the compress for 15 minutes at a time. You might also try holding ice water in your mouth for a few seconds at a time. However, don’t bite the ice because it could break your teeth.

Although these home remedies can provide temporary relief to toothache, do not rely on them. Rather, speak to a doctor and schedule an appointment and get your teeth evaluated and treated.
