How Stress Affects Male Sexual Health

How Stress Affects Male Sexual Health

Working late, worrying about your finances, and having to meet deadlines. The list goes on. These are different ways one can get stressed. One way or another, we have all gone through a stressful phase in life that affects the body differently. How one person reacts to stress might not be the same as another.

It goes to say that avoiding stress is impossible but getting it under control or managing it is possible. In men, stress can have a huge psychological, emotional, and physical impact on their sexual health.

What is Stress?

Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional, or psychological strain. Stress is your body’s response to anything that requires attention or action.

Managing Stress

Stress can affect testosterone production, which results in a decline in sex drive or libido, and can even cause erectile dysfunction.

As a man, once you suspect that stress is affecting your sexual health, you must start looking for solutions to manage your stress. One of the best stress relievers is sex, but it also comes with a list of worries; did I satisfy my partner? Why can’t I orgasm? This is the impact of the stress weighing on your mind.

Most men begin to get ashamed, but why should they? Worrying about your sexual health is not wrong rather not seeking out solutions on time could cause permanent damage.

Different strategies must be considered to help control stress so that it doesn’t affect your sex life. These strategies are;

Breathing exercise

Counting to five while taking a deep breath is a great way to relieve stress. Practice this often and you’ll see how handy it comes.

Meditating is great; sit in the quiet, and enjoy your surroundings while breathing in the fresh air.

Muscle relaxation

When you are stressed, your muscles get tense. You can help loosen them up by getting a massage, stretching, and getting a good night’s sleep.

Another way to relieve stress is by journaling; get yourself a journal or a diary, and write down how you feel and what you feel. Since it is yours and you won’t share it with anyone, you can always write whatever you want. This helps in relieving stress.

Exercise improves one’s mood, so working out regularly is one of the best ways to relax your mind and body.

Get a hobby

Take time from your schedule to do something you love, whether watching a movie or playing games, try to incorporate it into your life and it becomes a hobby. Hobbies help relieve stress.

Take a break and chill

If you are working or in the middle of something and you start to feel stressed, immediately stop whatever it is you are doing and take a break. Relax, close your eyes for a moment if it helps you move around before returning to what you were doing.

Talk to someone about your problems, preferably a therapist

Talking about your problem to someone else can help lower your stress if something is bothering you. It could be a family member or a professional therapist.
