As a new parent, noticing any abnormal behaviour or features in your baby is usually enough to worry about. Whether it is a small symptom that could easily go unnoticed or one that is hard to miss, it can make you feel unsettled. It is even worse if it makes the baby visibly uncomfortable, restless, and fussy. No one likes it when their baby is in discomfort.
A baby’s skin is very delicate and sensitive to factors like clothing, skin care products, dampness, and even the weather. This can lead to rashes on your baby’s skin. Most times, rashes are not considered to be a source of worry. But on some occasions, it could be. It could be indicative of a more serious condition.
How do you know the difference between a harmless rash on your baby’s skin and one that is a cause for alarm?
If your baby’s rash is not caused by factors like heat, fabric, allergies or any other factor that is considered to be normal, look out for accompanying symptoms. Here are some conditions that could present a rash as one of the symptoms, but come with other worrying indicators:
Measles sometimes seems like an ordinary cold but do not be deceived. It is a viral and very serious infection that can cause risky complications for your baby. The rash that comes with scarlet fever usually looks reddish and like sunburn. Before the rash develops, your child may have a sore throat, fever and swollen tonsils.
Chickenpox rashes are usually itchy, red and can become blisters that are filled up with fluid. It can come with mild fever.
If you notice a rash on your baby and you are not sure what the cause is, it is best to have a doctor take a look.
