We invest in our skin- exploring numerous products in the market, reading about skin care tips online, and talking to our friends about it.

Some people even go as far as using various chemicals to change the colour of their skin in an attempt to look “fresher”. We put in so much effort to ensure we get the kind of skin we will truly be comfortable in. But sometimes the efforts do not match the results.

Ever thought of adjusting your diet? Good food might just be what you need to get your skin looking great.

Your diet can have great effects on your health and even your looks. Hence the popular saying “You are what you eat”. You can improve your skin by being more intentional about the food you eat.

Here are six skin-friendly foods to incorporate into your diet to get that healthy, glowing skin

Avocados

Avocados are getting more popular with health-conscious people because they are rich in healthy fats that can help keep your skin strong and moisturised. Avocado also contains lots of vitamin E that protects your skin from oxidative damage. The vitamin C in avocado helps to produce collagen, a protein that strengthens your skin and keeps it healthy. You can use avocados as a spread, a snack or as part of your salads; it goes well with almost everything!

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes taste great and your skin would enjoy it too. It contains beta-carotene which helps protect your skin from sunburn by acting as a natural sunblock. Wrinkles are the enemy but sweet potatoes can help strengthen your skin against wrinkles and keep your skin smooth.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes look great and they can make your skin look great too. The high vitamin C and Lycopene content of tomatoes makes it very friendly to your skin. To get the most out of tomatoes, eat them alongside food that is rich in fat. Fats make it easier for your body to absorb the carotenoids from tomatoes

Egg whites

Egg whites are rich in the amino acids like proline and lysine. These amino acids help your skin heal properly from wounds. Egg whites can also increase your body’s production of collagen which helps keep your skin strong and reduces the risk of wrinkles.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are a favourite for many people and they can leave your skin looking great. Citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruit, tangerine, lemons and lime are high in vitamin C which helps with inflammation and dark circles. Citrus fruits also have high water content and everyone knows the human skin loves hydration.

Fatty fish

Sardines, Tuna, Mackerel, Herring, Anchovies and Lake trout are great sources of omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids help fight inflammation and maintain the collagen in your skin which keeps it healthy and firm

Everyone deserves to look beautiful and be comfortable in their skin.  Take control of your looks, eat healthy and get that glowing skin you have always desired.  Do not hesitate to speak to a doctor if you have any concerns about the health of your skin.
